fearlessness + funk
join me for breakti® in california
I am so thrilled to offer my first west coast Breakti® workshop on Friday, March 27th 8-10 pm at The Springs in downtown LA.
The Breakti® method was developed by my teacher, mentor, and friend Anya Porter from a love of both yoga and street dance. It has enhanced not only my yoga practice but also the ways in which I approach fearlessness and compassion [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][without sacrificing the funk].

Developed by Anya Porter, Breakti® was born of a love and appreciation for the art of street dance, or break dance, and its not-so-surprising relationship to the physical yoga practice.
From further curiosity in exploring the similarity between the movement incorporated in each practice grew an awareness of the ways in which they relate to each other on a metaphysical level. Not unlike the asana practice, breaking also calls for discipline through continuous attention and earnestness or devotion. Both art forms encourage community and teamwork within unique physical styles and bodies, as well as a sense of fearlessness or entering the unknown. The tricks we see in break dance today would not have been created without the open-mindedness needed to approach new territory.
At the root of this lies compassion – when we ignite this sense of both awareness and softness toward ourselves, we are able to cross physical and mental boundaries, and practice extending this openness toward others. We’re able to notice our fears without judgement and allow space for new experiences.
In this workshop you will explore the possibilities of range of motion, and comparison between the yoga practice and break dance “freezes” via safe and thoughtful alignment principles. Sasha will discuss the notion of what it means to be fearless, how to work in approaching fear with compassion, and will introduce movement in intelligent yet playful ways. We’ll also have time to step away from the safety zone of the mat and discover new realms of practicing both yoga and breaking via the Breakti® Method.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
