People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don’t even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child—our own two eyes. All is a miracle.
Thich Nhat Hanh
I will continue to reiterate that we must nurture our Selves in order to effectively nurture one another.
Summer is an epic time to [re]turn to nature and flow like a wave. Sometimes we are so fluid, however, that we end up on overdrive – whether that means one-too-many late nights, or one-too-many non-recyclable cups at one-too-many booze-heavy parties, or one-too-many missed glasses of water…
There is no shame here – we are only human – but there are certainly practices we can [re]turn to that can balance excess heat from summer, helping us to feel more centered and cool from the inside out.
Take care of your Self this season with a few of my go-to mindfulness and movement tools:
- practicing restorative movement to benefit body + mind – especially during and after warm days
- modifying various forms of yoga to suit my needs – especially after summer outings and trips
- enjoying other physical movements for mind-body wellbeing – especially when it can be outdoors
- meditating to cultivate calm – especially during longer and hotter days
- returning to some simple + powerful breathwork practices – especially to counter fiery summer heat
- revisiting mindfulness tools for mental health – which are really year-round practices
- getting out into nature to listen to + learn from the trees – or the water, the animals, the sun…
- remembering that our body is not our worth – on repeat
- continuing to explore how to eat for mind body planet health – on repeat
- supporting brands that support the planet – like those from my earth-conscious gift guide
- nourishing the place that nourishes us with daily planetary health practices
- eating delicious food – peach ginger mint avo and strawberry rose smoothies are summer favs
- drinking water and Divya’s hydrating “Ayurvedic Gatorade” beverage
- balancing grounding alone time with joyous social activities – especially picnics and meals al fresco
