Calories are essentially energy, just as energy is translated as calories in the case of food. We need energy to operate, therefore we need food to operate. Counting and quantifying what we eat will only benefit our lifestyles if we are overeating, or consuming more energy than we actually need. Qualifying what we consume, as in choosing quality foods to fuel our bodies (avocado versus milkshake), will benefit us more in the long run.
Check out my Calories vs. Energy post on the Sols blog, including tips on how to listen to our bodies instead of judging how much or how many calories we consume.
