another nature metaphor for life
No matter how much we watered them, our balcony flowers weren’t fully recovering after last year’s scorching summer sun and crispy winter winds.
Although we were discouraged, we waited it out and kept watering.
Not long after, my beloved house plants started to look sickly thanks to tiny pesky soil flies that somehow kept multiplying (the rage!).
I moved them outside to dry out the soil and snipped off the brown leaves that had grown so beautifully since I first acquired them over 4 years ago in Paris, and after sustaining many moves with me across town – eventually to Nice (the sorrow!)…
Maybe some of the newbies are weeds (instead of getting ahead of our weeds we are letting these ones party), but many of them were the ones that had since died, and eventually everything started sprouting (the joy!).
Not long after, my sweet house plants started showing signs of new life, and although their fate was still uncertain, I couldn’t believe they were reviving…
The point is: water your flowers (i.e. nourish yourself), because even if they look sad and hopeless (no analogy needed), the care we continue to offer is literally life-giving.
Plants are mysterious (i.e. why weeds and flies?!) yet simple (i.e. sun + water = life).
People and life itself can also be mysterious (i.e. WHY), yet also fairly simple (i.e. sun + water + a few other things = life).
Flowers die and return with the shifting of the seasons; they withstand different weather and sometimes surprise us with their resilience or disappearance…
