We cannot control the outcome of our action. Still, we can turn toward the world, plant good seeds, and trust that they will eventually bear fruit. Whenever a few people are committed to the vision of a free and just humanity, transformation can happen, despite the greatest odds.
Jack Kornfield, “The Wise Heart“
Whatever the political, socioeconomic, and pandemic-related outcomes in the coming months [because who really knows with 100% certainty how anything will ever unfold?], now more than ever is a time to soothe our Selves from outside-in and inside-out.
This does not necessarily mean doing things that feel good only for a fleeting moment [hi junky comfort food], but more so things that will sustain our wellbeing long term [au revoir recurring stress and COVID / bonjour preventative physical and mental health measures].
Whomever you voted for, and whether or not you have contracted or been in contact with someone who has been diagnosed with Coronavirus, we must remain nourished so that we can nourish one another. In doing so, we have a much better chance of cultivating a more unified and less violent, divisive, destructive system as a whole – beginning with our own personal lives.
We are all participants of this human existence; what we do [and how we do it] directly affects and influences one another.
Let’s soothe our minds, bodies and planet by filling the tank with enough effective fuel to function optimally. Let’s do it for the collective wellbeing of our Selves and those around us.
Here are a few of my current go-to insights, eats, products, and practices for attainable and sustainable ways of self-soothing:
- Dr. John Douillard’s November and December Ayurvedic practices | everything from the importance of and how to: eat seasonally, combat dryness, keep cozy, minimize stress, etc.
- Meditate | equalize holiday and pandemic anxieties by breathing for calm, cultivating equanimity, and practicing gratitude.
- Move | alternate between dynamic practices and slow flows to suit your needs.
- Get outside | take a walk, hug a tree, breathe, connect with nature in some way to remind yourself of the miracles and beauty all around us [and why it’s so imperative that we care for Mother Earth].
- Think Like a Monk by Jay Shetty | next on my list after hearing his inspiring pod interview.
- Living Libations vitamin D cream | for overall immunity during times with minimal sunlight.
- Blubox blue light blocking glasses | protect your eyeballs and nervous system, especially since many of us are constantly using technology to check news sources and social media.
- Pukka Three Mint Tea | a year-round go-to – straight up or with a splash of almond milk and cinnamon – aids digestion and anxiety.
- Elements Truffles turmeric hot chocolate | one of my fall and winter go-to beverages.
- Divya’s Ayurvedic cookbook | seasonal wisdom and some of my all-time favorite recipes.
- Nourishing home-cooked eats | my current obsession is the artichoke.
- Facial massage | I do this quick and effective technique morning and evening to relieve excess stress; I find it incredibly relieving.
- Manduka recycled wool blanket | use as a sturdy yoga prop and for warm Netflix nights.
- Sakara | always inspired by their seasonal creations and v excited about their Holiday Shop – use code XOXO for 20% off.
- Soft tunes | I keep adding to this soothing playlist for continual chill vibes.
- Holiday movies and music | for me, it starts now – Andrew Bird’s album is hitting the spot and Elf will soon be on repeat.
