A European-inspired x Mindful Summer Guide

Simple lifestyle habits to take with you, make your own + nourish you this season

I’ll be spending a bit of time with my family this summer in California, and after 7+ years of living in France, I’ve adopted some European-inspired lifestyle habits that I’ve started to naturally infuse into my US travels. I find them pretty mindful to boot.

It’s nice to know, too, that you can choose to integrate certain habits, tools, and practices into your day no matter where you are—whether you have the privilege of traveling or you’re staying closer to home.

And you can adapt it all to suit your needs, whereabouts, and resources. Win win.

Voilà—here are a few simple Euro x mindful summer habits I love to inspire you to create your own, for what it’s worth 🙂

Here’s a sneak peek:

Food + Meals

Take time for leisurely meals. Not necessarily 2+ hours (although those ones are sometimes the most fun), but slow and steady. Set the table, too.

Eat seasonally. Whatever is local to you; whatever dishes bring you joy and cool you off from the heat—which isn’t necessarily all raw salads (Ayurveda is a good reference).

Dine al fresco. Heat permitting, I love meals, picnics, and shared beverages outdoors. This includes the occasional luscious ice cream, obviously.

Enjoy apéro. Take time before dinner to have a refreshing sip and a few nibbles with family and/or friends—it might even turn into a long, social, snack-y dinner.

Movement + Mindfulness

Move in natural ways. It doesn’t have to be scheduled or at a gym. Take a long or brisk stroll or swim, hike, play at a park with kids or friends, or tend to a garden.

Move in cooling ways. Summer isn’t necessarily a time to push it, especially in midday heat. Add restorative yoga into the mix; move your body early in cooler temps. An early morning dip or sunset seaside stroll in Nice are so rejuvenating.

Take mindful breaks. The heat can be disorienting—take a beat to chat with a friend, walk around the block, sit in the shade, or savor a cooling beverage on a café terrace.
